The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower (HDS) is a subtle symbol that indicates the wearer has a hidden disability. It signals to staff or volunteers that the wearer may need extra assistance, understanding, or patience, enhancing accessibility and interactions at events and community activities.
City of Mandurah employees who have completed the HDS awareness training can be identified by their white and green sunflower lanyards, badges, or wristbands.
For a limited time, people with a hidden disability can request a complimentary green HDS lanyard from the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre or the City of Mandurah Administration building. My Community Chat Cards are a helpful tool for people with disability, family members and support workers to explore new interests and connect with others in Mandurah.
The cards can be used to start conversations about local activities and opportunities for community participation. The images, text and QR codes provide simple prompts to explore what is available.

A Social Story™ or a Visual Story explains new experiences and environments to people who are autistic or have sensory sensitivities. They can be helpful for anyone who experiences nervousness when attending a place or event for the first time.

Joining a local disability network helps individuals, groups, and providers access valuable resources, information, and advocacy opportunities. It offers a platform for networking with professionals, volunteers, and people with disability, fostering personal and professional growth. Members stay informed about local activities and programs, connecting people with disabilities to valued community roles.
The Mandurah Disability Network is a group of people who represent disability groups, people with disability and family members. The people who go to these meetings want to work together to help make Mandurah a more accessible and friendly community for people with disability.
The Mandurah Disability Network meets quarterly at the Council Chambers Building at 83 Mandurah Terrace, Mandurah.

MKRain is a partnership between the Local Governments of Mandurah, Kwinana and Rockingham. It’s a network that seeks to engage and connect professionals who support and work with people with disability and their families. MKRain meetings are held throughout the year, and the network is also supported with regular email updates detailing local events, news and information of relevance to people working in the sector.

The Mandurah Rockingham Customised Employment Network is an informal network that meets online on a quarterly basis.
